Welcome to our resources section for health care providers. Below you will find a collection of online resources representing the midwifery profession and midwifery practice both locally and nationally. We realize that there are a lot of information sources out there, and it can be a challenge to find ones that provide you the most current, evidence-based information you are looking for. These are the ones that we think will provide you with the quality information you need when you have questions about the midwifery profession or are looking to support your own practice in our community.
Association of Ontario Midwives (AOM)
The online home for midwifery resources in Ontario. This site offers public access to a number of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). Recommendations contained within the CPGs are consistent with current evidence and the midwifery philosophy of care. The AOM also offers numerous educational opportunities for midwives, students and other health care professionals that are available on this site.
Best Start Resource Centre
Ontario’s Maternal Newborn and Early Child Development Resource Centre. Supports service providers working in preconception health, prenatal health and early childhood development. Most resources can be downloaded free of charge and are provided in a number of different languages.
BORN Ontario
Ontario’s pregnancy, birth and childhood registry and network. This site offers online public access to numerous reports and information relevant to current maternal and childhood health in the province.
Breastfeeding Resources Ontario
An online source for quality, evidence-informed resources for health care providers that support the Baby-Friendly Initiative.
Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM)
The online home of the national organization representing midwives and the profession of midwifery in Canada. This site provides public access to a number of position statements, newsletters, and annual reports. Membership opportunities and subscription options to the Canadian Journal of Midwifery Practice (Canada’s national peer-reviewed midwifery journal) are available here.
Canadian Paediatric Society (CPS)
The online home for clinical paediatric resources in Canada. This site provides public access to a number of position statements and practice points developed by the CPS related to newborn care.
College of Midwives of Ontario (CMO)
An online resource about the regulation of midwifery practice in Ontario. This site offers information regarding the midwifery scope of practice, standards of practice, legislation and regulation.
LGBTQ Parenting Network
An online resource supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer parenting. The Network is a program of Sherbourne Health Centre (Toronto) providing research, training, resources, and community development across Ontario for families and health care professionals.
Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health (PCMCH)
An online resource for health care providers, the Council provides a provincial forum to enhance the delivery and experience of maternal and paediatric care in Ontario. The Council has a number of strategies and initiatives, including the development of quality based procedures and clinical practice guidelines, on topics related to pregnancy and early newborn care.
Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC)
The online home for current research and clinical practice guidelines supporting obstetrical and gynaecological practice in Canada. Note that SOGC membership is required to access content published after January 1, 2016. Open access to abstracts, recommendations, and summary statements remains available on the site.
Youth Pregnancy Care Pathway
An online resource tool for health care professionals to help youth explore and understand Hamilton-based resources available to pregnant and parenting youth. This pathway is a collaborative project of the Hamilton Birth Weights Coalition and is available both online and for download.
