Our Midwives

Kate Demers
RM, SF
Professional Background
Kate holds an Honours BSc with a minor in French (McMaster University, 2002), a BHSc in Midwifery (McMaster University, 2009), and a Master of Midwifery (University of Sheffield, 2014). Kate is a fluent French speaker, and works off-site providing Midwifery care at Centre de Santé Communautaire.
Commitment to Midwifery Practice
In addition to her work as a Registered Midwife, Kate works as an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at McMaster University. She is a sessional instructor and tutor in the Midwifery Education Program and a clinical preceptor to students in our clinic. Kate is also an instructor for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Fetal Health Surveillance Program. Kate was drawn to Midwifery from childhood, hearing stories of her father being born at home. She was inspired by the choice her Grandmother was given to stay at home with her family to give birth, and Kate wanted to be able to offer that choice to others.
Off Call Time
When Kate isn’t working you will find her with her two children, Claire and Luc. They spend a lot of time in the winter at the rink as they are both avid and accomplished hockey players. In the summer you will find her and her family camping or swimming at the lake.
